Honn/Bernstein Residence

Building Envelope, Forensic Assessment, Residential - 2002-2008

About The Project

William Wesley Peters, an important student and colleague of Frank Lloyd Wright, designed this residence in a manner entirely consistent with Wright’s philosophy of organic architecture. One of Peters’ few residential works, the dwelling consists of an exposed pair of steel trusses forming the upper level anchored to a concrete masonry lower level. The carport and entrance are situated in the space beneath the upper level. The historic fabric of the house had been well maintained, leaving its architectural integrity intact. Isthmus Architecture, Inc. assisted the original owner in locating a buyer for the property who appreciated the unique qualities of the residence. The new owners then retained Isthmus Architecture to renovate the kitchen and roof terrace and to develop a comprehensive plan to manage the ongoing preservation of the home and grounds.
